About Julie Kathan www.juliekathan.org In early September 2011, Julie Kathan seemed like a typical, healthy 53-year-old woman. But she wasn’t. She was living with Glioblastoma Multiforme – an aggressive and terminal brain cancer. By late September, she was experiencing mental blurriness. After a trip to the emergency room and emergency surgery, a cancerous tumor was revealed. She was given less than a year to live.
Julie has been married to Jeff Kathan for almost 24 years. Together, they have 2 children - Brittni, 23, and Dayna, 21. Julie also helped raise Jeff’s oldest daughter, Brandee, 29.
Just like with so many of us, the past few years have been an extreme financial strain. The Kathans were forced to file for Chapter 13 bankruptcy last year. On top of having to cope with the emotional trauma that comes with this prognosis, the Kathan family now faces a financial emergency due to Julie’s astronomical medical bills.
Luckily, the Kathans have an incredible support system of family and friends who would like to help. They have set up this website for donations to offset the cost of Julie’s medical bills. If you would like to help, it’s easy to do. The Kathan family would like everyone to know the support they’ve received is truly touching, and they are forever grateful. Julie is in the fight of her life, but she’s loved by so many. Let’s join together and make her fight a little easier. Thank you!
Additional Details Full disclosure: Unfortunately because all of the proceeds go to one individual there is no charitable tax deduction. Silent and Live Auction items: Even if you pay above the fair market value there is no charitable deduction.
Supported by Temple Theater, Morgan Sound, Digital Dream Development, Kip Toner Benefit Auctions, Greg Kalamar, AVR Production Services, Bryan Olson, Terry Divyak and Bill Cherrington.

Let me start out by saying, Randy, thanks for the first W.A.S.P. albums, which I think are the best of the W.A.S.P. collection. Great guitar work on those records! “I Wanna Be Somebody,” “Love Machine,” “The Flame,” “Blind In Texas,” and “Wild Child” are some great songs! And let’s not forget that classic love song, “Animal (F*** Like A Beast). Once again, thank you.
Donnie Tranchina: So Randy, how has life after W.A.S.P. been? What are some of the other projects you’ve been involved in?
Randy Piper: Life is good - I’m really happy right now. I’ve traveled quite a bit since then, lived in a few different places, from LA to Florida, to the Midwest and Las Vegas and more. I like to go somewhere for a while, experience it, and then move on. I get bored if I stay too long anywhere, but I always love to travel.
Donnie Tranchina: Did you guys know when you were recording the first W.A.S.P. album, that it was going to blow so many people away?
Randy Piper: I think when you’re that close to it, and doing it every day, it’s not that big a surprise. You’re striving for it every day, day in and day out – it’s not like being on the other side when you just heard it the first time. In that respect, I’m really happy it’s done so well and had a lasting power. Thirty years later there’s a whole new generation listening and liking the music. It’s pretty cool. I’m glad to be part of it - thankful to be part of it.
Donnie Tranchina: From the first time I heard “I Wanna Be Somebody,” I remember saying to myself, “I like this; I like this a lot… great songs.” Are you still close with Blackie and Chris?
Randy Piper: The last time I saw Blackie was in Cincinnati, and he looked good and sounded great. Chris has worked with me on a couple of projects . . . MORE!
